Rees is our NF Hero. He has been sick on and off over his 15 years of life. At 9 days old he contracted RSV, which nearly took his life. At 4 months old, problems with his vision arose. At 2 years old, he had double cross-eyed surgery and a tumor removed from his back. At the ages of 6, 8, and 9, he was hospitalized with bowel obstructions. At 11 years old, he quickly started losing all mobility of the right side of his body. After many doctor visits and an MRI, 2 tumors were discovered at his brain stem. On February 1st, 2012, Rees underwent 12 1/2 hours of surgery to remove 3 tumors from his brain stem, but a portion was left behind so as not to irreparably damage nerves. Shortly after, Rees was diagnosed with NF2 (Neurofibromatosis 2). In 2013 he had 2 tumors removed from his stomach. In early 2014 a cath port was surgically implanted. Rees has completed a year of Chemo. And we continue to take one day/one tumor at a time.
