Tanner is 10 years old and was diagnosed with NF1 at age 3. At age 4 he was diagnosed with dystrophic scoliosis with a curve of 97 degrees. In March of 2010, he had growing rods. Between age 5 and 10 he had 8 surgeries to either lengthen the rods, replace them with longer rods, or repair a rod that had become dislodged. In March of 2015 he developed Kyphosis.. In he got an infection in his rods an had to have an emergency surgery to remove them. In August the doctors removed one of his ribs, did an anterior release and did an anterior fusion of his spine. At the same time the doctors did a posterior release an put him a halo traction. He spent 4 weeks in traction. After removing the halo the doctors took bone marrow from both sides of his pelvic bone and fused his spine from C6 to T12. He spent a total of 39 days in the hospital and currently wears a brace. He’s doing much better. He is my hero!
