Grace was diagnosed with NF1 as a baby and at 5 she was diagnosed with two optic-gliomas. She began chemotherapy her first week of kindergarten. 14 months later, Grace was given the all clear. It has been three years since that last treatment. Still, she is monitored through MRI’s and appointments. Those days seem so long ago sometimes, but during that time of our lives, I wasn’t sure if it would ever end. I don’t know if I ever had the right words to tell my daughter when she cried or asked me why she had to go through what she was enduring. I don’t think any parent ever does have the right words for that moment.. one you never imagined you would be in. I tell Grace all the time that she makes me brave. We know how lucky we are. We know our battle is not over. Grace just goes through her days like she is supposed to, not worrying anymore, but still wiser and braver than before.
