Tyler was diagnosed with NF1 at 18 months. His specialists include a geneticist, neurologist, endocrinologist, ophthalmologist, and pediatrician. At 3 years old he started school with an IEP and Speech, Occupational, and Physical therapies during school and outside school. He has yearly MRIs and his symptoms include multiple café au lait spots, lisch nodules, 3 plexiform neurofibromas and 10 neurofibromas. He has a rough time with school due to ADHD and a cognitive disorder requiring special teaching techniques. Tyler has been involved with our community soccer team as well as taking Aikido classes. Currently he is enrolled in swimming classes and also enjoys Surfers for Autism events. I have spent hours doing as much research as possible on NF1. As much as I have learned about NF I realize that the best approach we can take is day to day. With many possible complications that could arise, there is no way to predict his future. I am participating in this event to bring awareness of NF1
