Cailin is a vibrant 9 year old girl with NF1. Diagnosed at 4 years old, we abruptly found out that not only did she have neurofibromatosis, but already at age 4 she had numerous tumors growing within her body. She also had a large mass in her chest that required removal as soon as possible. The month after her surgery we were back in the PICU, Cailin had a stroke. We found out she had another genetic disorder, MoyaMoya (narrowing of arteries in her brain), which can sort of piggy back NF. She had to learn to walk again without assistance. With her two genetic disorders, Cailin has dealt with many issues including: developmental delays, speech delay, Horner syndrome, and major surgeries including a brain surgery. Through it all she has remained so brave and strong and confident. She is a hero to so many people and an inspiration to our family. She is a straight A student that participates in student council and choir and is thriving in every aspect of her life.
