Parker was born on November 25, 2008 with a couple of cafe au lait spots. We didn’t think anything of his “birthmarks” because he was so healthy, happy and active. But in 2011, we were surprised to learn about the presence of an optic glioma, which confirmed the diagnosis of NF1 After monitoring his optic glioma for a year, Parker had to begin chemotherapy. It was during this time that Parker’s inner ‘hero’ came out. He continued to live life to the fullest and would often tell people, “I’m happy and good!” After developing a severe allergic reaction to the chemo, we decided to end his treatments. Luckily, a follow up MRI showed that his tumor had slightly reduced in size and showed signs of dormancy. He now is almost 7 years old and his tumor has shown no further growth! We have had some additional challenges manifest, but through it all, Parker continues to be strong and positive. He is definitely our hero. I kNow a Fighter!!
