Over the summer, seven year old Izabella cut her waist-long brunette hair to donate it to kids suffering from hair loss due to cancer and other illnesses. On August 2, 2014, Izabella was diagnosed with a brain tumor which unfortunately was cancerous. The tumor was removed on August 4th and shortly after, Izabella underwent yet another surgery to insert a shunt to help relieve pressure in the brain by draining fluids. Since the surgery, Izabella suffers from optic nerve swelling which has left her vision severely impaired. Izabella had to be taken out of her school, Sacred Heart Elementary School in Bayside, because of her severely reduced vision. The optic nerve swelling has gone down but she does have some optic nerve damage which is now a wait and see game. One thing that remains is Izzy’s great sense of humor and positive attitude. She’s still the same smiling girl from before her surgery. Izabella says she wants to be a surgeon when she grows up and help little kids like her!
