Scarlett is a vibrant, funny, and very sweet kid who was dianosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF-1) at 2 1/2. NF-1 causes tumors to grow on her nerve endings. Unfortunately, Scarlett’s tumors grow in and around her throat, larynx, sides of her face, and upper chest. Now 7, she’s had several surgeries to keep the tumors from closing her airways and has participated in a drug research trial to slow the growth of her tumors. She’s a brave ambassador for NF research and is always telling people about her “special eye”.
