When 17-year-old Nick Gilbert is not representing the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA’s draft lottery, he is your typical high school senior hanging out with friends, playing basketball, and keeping up with his favorite sports teams.

The oldest of Dan and Jennifer Gilbert’s five children, Nick was diagnosed with NF1 as a toddler. Despite numerous challenges, including brain surgery at 10 years old and several rounds of chemotherapy, NF1 is no match for the teenager.

Nick served as the 2011 CTF Ambassador. “I was proud to help the fight to develop a cure for NF. I hope my positive attitude continues to be an example for other kids with NF,” said Nick.

Nick has a magic touch when it comes to sports. In 2011 and 2013, he brought home the 1st pick for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the draft lottery. He also brought attention and awareness to NF in the process.

Nick is busy applying to college, where he plans to major in business and (no surprise) sports management.
