Clara was diagnosed with NF1 at the age of 15 months. She is the only one in our family who has it. As of now, Clara’s NF is considered mild. That being said, she is seen yearly by a neuro-oncologist, audiologist and an ophthalmologist in addition to her regular pediatrician. Every few years she has to get an MRI under sedation to check for tumors on her brain and spine and to monitor the tumor on her back. The MRIs usually last 1.5-2 hours, but they feel like an eternity to us. Thankfully, NF is not holding her back. Clara enjoys your everyday five year old activities: school, gymnastics, tennis, swimming, playing with her sisters and friends. She has a fantastic sense of humor, loves to make people smile and is normally easy going; but when needed, she has a beautiful sense of determination and strength about her. Clara is worth every mile to the moon and back.
