Catherine was diagnosed with NF1 and an optic nerve glioma at age 14 months. As a result she is permanently blind in her left eye. She is now almost 7 years old and has undergone over 5 years of continuous chemo and drug trials to keep her brain tumor from growing. She and her twin brother Peter have supported each other (and their Mom and Dad) through all of this with astounding strength and humor.
We have been very lucky to be under the care of Dr. Roger Packer and Dr. Brian Rood at Children’s National Medical Center. The doctors and nurses there have always gone above and beyond and we see them as part of our family now.
As with all kids with NF, we don’t know what lies ahead for Catherine but we know that with her brother right beside her, she will face it with great courage and determination.
