“I can’t… I won’t… I give up…” are words that simply don’t exist in Victor Chukwueke’s vocabulary. Originally born in Nigeria, a tumor developed on the side of Victor’s face and head at a very young age. Victor was diagnosed with a NF. Victor refused to let NF ruin his life. After meeting a missionary nun at the age of 15, he was flown to Southfield, MI, where a surgeon performed 9 reconstructive surgeries over the course of 12 years. During this period, Victor mastered the English language & enrolled at Wayne State University where he made the Dean’s List & graduated with degrees in both Biochemistry & Chemical Biology. Aspiring to become a missionary doctor, Victor overcame incredible challenges to obtain permanent residency in the US so he could enroll in medical school. In 2013, he entered the University of Toledo College of Medicine. He plans to use his past experiences to help alleviate the pain and suffering of people affected by NF & other similar diseases.
