Katelyn Carrabino is our NF Champion. When Katelyn was 2-1/2 years old, she was diagnosed with NF1. At age 7, Katie was diagnosed with an optic glioma that caused severe peripheral vision loss. Numerous rounds of chemotherapy and radiation stabilized the tumor, but the treatment damage left Katie legally blind. Katie did what most thought she couldn’t; she was on her High School Varsity Swim team, in the National Honor Society, obtained her Associates Degree in Culinary Skills and Mgt, and her Bachelor Degree in Business. Unfortunately, NF is a progressive disorder. At the age of 22, a second brain tumor was discovered. Katie started back on chemotherapy in January 2012, went through 28 rounds of diffuse radiation in early 2015, and continues chemotherapy today along with other treatment options, including hyperbaric treatments. Katie has been a fighter all of her life, and she continues her fight today against the debilitating effects of NF and all the treatments she has endured. Through it all, she continues to be the most beautiful, kind-hearted, genuine, positive spirit with a smile that will melt your heart. She is truly amazing!
