Leah was diagnosed with NF1 after her mommy googled “my baby has brown spots”when she was 5 months old. That was the day their lives were turned upside down……but only for a short time. She started chemo right before her 3nd birthday to try and shrink a brain tumor. She was having frequent falls, trouble walking, decreased use of her left arm and she was missing other milestones that a kiddo her age should have been meeting. Her little body wasn’t able to tolerate the chemo and she began having terrible reactions each week after her infusions. It was a long winter with most weekends spent in the hospital with fever and anaphylactic reactions. Her oncologist tried another type of chemo, but it was making her symptoms worse so it was stopped within 2 months of starting. Leah was determined as a baby and that determination has gotten her where she is today. Fast forward to now….Leah is 5 years old. She has gotten so much stronger over the past 2 years. She is going to preschool and working so hard to keep up with her classmates. Even though she is a little slower than her friends on the playground, she is not missing out on a single thing! She is a fighter!
