Nicolas

Nicolas was diagnosed with NF1 on 3/29/10, just 2 weeks after his 1st birthday. He has low muscle tone, a slight curvature in his spine and “thickening of both his optic nerves. He get’s yearly MRI’s to check for any tumor’s in his brain and to make sure that the optic nerves remain stable. Every other year he get’s an MRI of his spine to check for tumor growth. NF is a neurological genetic disorder where tumors form anywhere in or on the body along the nerves. Fifty percent of the people with NF have it because one of their parents has it and the other 50% have it from a spontaneous mutation, Nic has NF as a result of a spontaneous mutation. We live in TODAY, and hope that Nic will continue to have a mild case throughout his life. We hope, everyday, that more effective treatments will be found so that Nic and so many of his friends will not have to worry about NF.
