Ryker is not your average 5 year old; he is extraordinary. His battle with NF began at a very young age; he was only 4 months old when he had his first MRI. The diagnosis of NF1 came after that. His parents thought he was brave then and now each day he reminds them why they call him their superhero. Ryker has had numerous battles to win in his 5 short years of life. When he turned 1, he had his first of many de-bulking surgeries on a tumor growing externally on his face called a plexiform neurofibroma.
Only a year later he was diagnosed with 2 optic gliomas and went through 12 months of Chemotherapy to shrink the tumors. In April of 2015 Ryker finished his 1t Clinical Trial of weekly chemo injections. The trial helped temporarily stabilize his plexiform tumor, but didn’t help shrink his tumor as we had hoped it would. Ryker is currently on his 2nd Clinical Trial of an oral chemo he takes every 12 hours. After only being on the trial for 4 months Ryker’s Plexiform tumor is 27% smaller.
